Paul Casey is the Farm Manager at Heifer International’s Learning Center at Heifer Ranch in Perryville, Arkansas. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (Lafayette, LA) in 1985. Paul received a Master’s Degree in Reproductive Physiology of farm animals from Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA) in 1989. Following graduate work, he moved to Sylacauga, Alabama where he managed a cow/calf and stocker operation. He joined the Heifer Ranch staff in January 2002. He is responsible for the overall management of the agricultural and maintenance operations on the Ranch. Since 2004, he has been conducting on farm trails evaluating various alternative methods of controlling gastro-intestinal nematodes (GIN) in sheep and goats. Much of this work has centered on the use of management intensive grazing to prevent high GIN levels and heavy culling of breeding stock to select for animals with GIN resistance.
